10 TV Seasons That Are Practically Flawless
4. Chernobyl
Really capturing the zeitgeist when it aired, Chernobyl was the examination of what gross incompetency can do to cause the maximum amount of damage to a country. After an explosion at a nuclear power plant occurs, the worsening disaster is attempted to be contained by some and ignored by others resulting in horrific consequences.
Chernobyl is a technical marvel. It is smartly written and paced, the audience can understand easily the problems that went wrong at the plant and the repercussions that came from the the outpouring of radiation. In certain scenes that are reminiscent of body horror, we see the worst examples of the destruction the radiation can have on the human body.
The show is tense throughout, building up to the shocking pain that is coming to the victims. Chernobyl does a good job of portraying the brave men and women who tried to help (some who knew the radiation would later kill them and some who did not) and for criticising the governing bodies that only proceeded to make things worse.
It is graphic and intelligent and feels incredibly focused on the injustices and the victims involved. Chernobyl should be a lesson that is learned so the human race never has to go through something like this again.
