10 TV Show Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spin-Offs
7. Alice Morgan From Luther
Listen, we are still not and will never be over the fact that Luther is done. This show was, without a doubt, television at its peak. Aside from the talented work from Idris Elba as Luther, complex characters like Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) made the series stand out above the rest. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
As a detective and due to the dark nature of his work, Luther found it difficult to keep himself from being consumed by the crimes he was investigating. Luther's demons were a driving factor for his character, as his obsessive and sometimes violent nature got the better of him.
However, it's his volatile relationship with the brilliant yet psychotic murderer Alice Morgan that is the real meat of the series. She becomes both his nemesis and the most important person in his life, turning her into an unlikely partner. Think Moriarty to Luther’s Holmes, but with way more team ups.
This is a character that we need to see more of, and to be honest I can't decide whether her story should take place before or after Luther.
On the one end, seeing her criminal past before her relationship with Luther would give great insight into the woman she became. But on the other hand, there's still so much more to the character that we've yet to explore now that the series has ended (until the movie comes along, anyway).
It's difficult to accept that she's truly dead - with her demise happening offscreen - and thus her spinoff series could outline how she managed to survive and what she’s been doing all this time. Maybe we could even have Luther show up for an arc or two.
There's more to this character than meets the eye, that's for sure.
