10 TV Shows Cancelled Before Their Time

3. The Tick

The Tick has the misfortune of being a misunderstood, mismanaged show that is based on an animated show that is based on a comic. The animated show ran from 1994-€™96 prompting creator Ben Edlund to produce a live action pilot for broadcast on Fox. The Tick is a superhero, sworn to protect a remote bus station from the evil machinations of malfunctioning vending machines and is generally a nuisance to weary travelers. Tricked into moving to €œThe City€ the Tick finds a new domain to defend. The world in which the Tick resides is a hilarious blend of reality and the fantasy of comic books. Patrick Warburton€™s portrayal of the tick is utterly perfect with delivery of such lines as €œJava devil you are now my bitch!€ coming with such sincerity that you€™re not sure if you should laugh out loud at the absurdity or gear up for a battle of epic proportions. Bumbling, inept and accidentally heroic, the Tick is the unsung hero of superhero television shows. After nine episodes it was cancelled by Fox due to climbing production expenses and promotional problems causing the show and its audience to pass like ships in the night. Still, all those involved with the show have expressed love for what they achieved, an audience was found after the show€™s release on DVD and Patrick Warburton himself retains one of the Tick costumes and has expressed interest in returning to the role. Of all the shows on this list, The Tick is perhaps the most likely to be revived.
