10 TV Shows Just Saved From Cancellation
3. Bull
There were two main reasons why it looked like CBS would ultimately cancel legal drama Bull.
The first is fairly standard: ratings. The show lost over 1/3 of its viewers in its third year, falling well down the network's pecking order.
At the same time, it was dogged by in-real-life scandal, with former cast member Eliza Dushku revealing that she had reached a $9.5m settlement with CBS over claims she was sexually harassed by lead actor Michael Weatherly during her time on the show. That led to Steven Spielberg, who was an executive producer on the series via Amblin, severing all ties with the series.
It was expected CBS would follow suit, but they've instead gone ahead and renewed the drama for a fourth season, with the network's entertainment president, Kelly Kahl, telling TV Line:
"Michael made a mistake. He owned that mistake… he was apologetic at the time; he was remorseful… [Michael made himself open to] whatever coaching or training is necessary to create a positive environment on set. He took everything very seriously and wanted to move forward. When we looked at the totality of the situation, we felt comfortable bringing it back on the air.”
Sounds like a load of... rubbish.
