10 TV Shows People Need To Stop Sleeping On

3. Outlander (Starz)

History buffs and period romance lovers should pay particular attention to this one.

Part historical fiction, part fantasy, Outlander follows the tale of Claire Beachamp (Caitriona Balfe), a World War II combat nurse. On her second honeymoon after the war, she is inexplicably dropped into the Scottish Highlands right as the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 is revving up.

Claire simply wants to figure out a way back to her time (and husband), but those around her think she may be a British spy. While using her wits, and knowledge of the future, to navigate the tumultuous climate of the Highlands, she fights her ever growing feelings for a Mr. James Fraiser (Sam Heughan).

One of the best parts of the show is its representation of Scottish Highland culture. The set design, cinematography, costumes, and food make you want to follow Claire through the stones and stay a while. To sum it up it is a well researched, detail-oriented production.

Outlander is a thrilling adventure wrapped inside of an epic love story. Renown for their steamy love-scenes, even the most grizzled of men have blushed from the chemistry of the main characters. The show's fans don't call Jamie the "King of the Men" for nothing. It is pure escapism at its finest.

The show is already renewed for multiple more seasons, so you have plenty of time to catch up!
