10 TV Shows Star Trek Actors Want You To Forget

3. The Stand - Whoopi Goldberg

The Stand Whoopi Goldberg
CBS

To be very clear, Whoopi Goldberg is excellent as Mother Abigail Freemantle in 2020's updated adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. However, she is let down by the rest of the production, with many elements combining to make a fairly hollow show.

From a drastically miscast Alexander Skarsgard as Randall Flagg, to a ridiculous portrayal of Lloyd Henreid and a borderline offensive take on the Trashcan Man (by Ezra Miller, no less), The Stand starts strong before heading to a slump of an ending, before finally fizzling out without any fanfare.

Billed as the modern take on the classic tale, the TV series does nothing new with the source material, bar updating a few dollar amounts and adding new technology to the mix. It was a muddled affair altogether, more style than substance, eventually delivering nine episodes without any real reason for existing.

Would that the show could have remained in Hemmingford Home with Mother Abbie, it could have been saved by the best actor in the piece. Unfortunately, it is now simply another poor adaptation of a fantastic King original, slouching toward Bethlehem to be born.
