Picking up where shows like ER and Chicago Hope left off, Seattle-based medical drama Grey's Anatomy made its mid-season debut on March 27th 2005. Two years later it won the Golden Globe award for Best Television Series. Not bad for a show whose main cast members were relative unknowns at the time. Lead actress Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) has spoken recently of her plans to quit acting when Grey's finally comes to an end - maybe spending a decade performing fake surgeries on cow organs can put a person off for life. Grey's Anatomy also propelled Katherine Heigl into the world who left after season six to spend more time with her family, later appearing in a number of Golden Raspberry-Nominated movies, and Patrick Dempsey who spends his free time racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and hiding from fans of Transformers 3. It has spawned spin-off series Private Practice which ran for six seasons while Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes (no relation to LeAnn) is responsible for hit political drama, Scandal.
