4. Breaking Bad & How I Met Your Mother

Now for the second How I Met Your Mother entry on this list, this time revolving around one of Breaking Bad's finest performers. Bryan Cranston did appear on the show as Ted's boss and colleague, Hammond Druthers, but here we're talking about Bob Odenkirk.

Before he became Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul's iconic Saul Goodman, Odenkirk played Marshall's boss, Arthur, initially in 2008. He then got the gig for Saul in the second season of Breaking Bad, but couldn't do the full job he was supposed to.

Goodman was originally a minor role, and as the man himself told Rolling Stone, he couldn't make the final episode as planned due to his commitment to How I Met Your Mother. This was the finale of season two, and to get around the hole left in the episode, Mike Ehrmentraut (Jonathan Banks) was created.

Mike went on to make a huge impression in that first appearance, and ultimately played not only a crucial role in the rest of the series, not to mention one of its most impactful and emotional death scenes, but also in almost every episode of Better Call Saul. It's impossible to imagine either series without Mike, and it was all thanks to Odenkirk's contract with How I Met Your Mother.
