10 TV Sitcom Stars Who Couldn't Break The Movies

5. Michael Richards

With some of these actors, there’s still the chance the right part is just around the corner. After a certain 2006 incident (i.e his racist meltdown at a comedy club), we can safely assume Michael Richards’ dreams of a Hollywood career are long over. Even before he became persona non grata, though, the hugely successful sitcom actor wasn’t finding fortune on the big screen.

The problem? Michael Richards is Kramer for life. Despite a reasonably successful career before donning the loud shirts and shock hairstyle, he is linked with his character in a way Jason Alexander or even Jerry Seinfeld are not. There could be some value in casting Kramer against type, but no one seemed too interested then, and they certainly aren’t now.

Minor supporting roles in reasonably well known ‘90s comedies - Airheads, Coneheads, So I Married An Axe Murderer - are as good as it ever got for Richards’ cinematic ambitions. The man has three Emmys to his name and is set for life after starring in one of the all time great sitcoms, mind, so we don’t need to feel too sorry for him.
