10 TV Spinoffs You Didn’t Know Were Happening

9. Beyond Paradise

Young Dexter
BBC Studios

Death in Paradise is a British police procedural show featuring a bumbling detective attempting to solve crimes on a beautiful tropical island.

Comedian Ben Miller first had the role, then he regenerated into My Family's Kris Marshall, who regenerated into Father Ted's Ardal O'Hanlon, who regenerated into The Royle Family's Ralf Little.

Anyone not from Britain must be confused reading this.

It's the second Doctor - whoops, I mean detective - that we're interested in, as he's the one getting his very own show.

Marshall, who you may remember as the horny English guy from Love, Actually, is returning as DI Humphrey Goodman for a new show called Beyond Paradise. Joined by his fiancée Martha (Sally Bretton), Humphrey will be solving cases in rural England now instead of the island of Saint Marie.

Can probably put the sunblock back in the cupboard, old boy.

The cast of the upcoming show also includes Sex Education's Samantha Spiro, The Stranger's Jade Harrison and EastEnders star Davood Ghadami.

Will it be any good? Well, Death in Paradise has never been particularly hard-hitting television, but surely this offshoot will continue to provide the cosy viewing experience its parent programme is known for.
