4. Somali And The Forest Spirit - ソマリと森の神様
Somali And The Forest Spirit is a fantasy manga series created by Yako Gureishi that debuted in 2015. Since that time, there have been five volumes, and the books have been digitized into an online webcomic in multiple languages. The manga is being adapted into an anime series set to debut in January 2020.
The series announcement came in March 2019, and it was originally supposed to air in October of the same year, but ended up being delayed. The anime will debut on AbemaTV Tokyo MX, and BS-NTV in Japan, and it will stream elsewhere via Crunchyroll at the same time.
The manga details a world rules by goblins, spirits, and many other fantastical and strange creatures. Human beings are the lower-class in society and are persecuted everywhere they go, which has led to their near-extinction. One day, when a lone human girl and a golem meet one another, things begin to change.
They pair up — one being a member of a nearly extinct race, the other a watchman of the forest — their travels help grow a bond between the two as if they were father and daughter. The book's fantasy elements and its plethora of creatures should transfer beautifully in animated form, and the series is expected to follow the source material as closely as possible.
