10 Upcoming TV Shows That Won't Be An Easy Watch
7. National Treasure: Edge Of History
The prospect of a TV continuation of the hit adventure movie franchise National Treasure sounds great on paper, though enthusiasm immediately evaporated for many fans once it was confirmed that the star of both movies, Nicolas Cage, wouldn't be appearing at all.
National Treasure: Edge of History will effectively be a soft reboot for the IP, revolving around a new host of younger characters while Justin Bartha will reprise his role as Riley Poole in a guest star capacity.
Even with a promising supporting cast including Catherine Zeta Jones and Harvey Keitel, though, it's tough not to approach the series with a healthy dose of skepticism, that Disney is evidently rehashing a beloved cinematic IP without its lead star in a half-baked attempt to fill a hole in its streaming platform.
Given that Nicolas Cage represents a solid 90% of the appeal of this brand, his absence is likely to make this show a bit of a chore to get through. It'd be great to be proven wrong, of course, but the aggressively mediocre marketing hasn't done a great job of persuading skeptical fans otherwise.
National Treasure: Edge of History premieres on Disney+ on December 14.
