10 US Adaptations Of UK TV Shows That Didn't Make It Past The Pilot
4. Benidorm
When Benidorm first aired in 2007, no-one expected the show would last a staggering ten seasons. Even as the show progressed, threat of cancellation was always there.
The untimely passing of cast member
Geoffrey Hutchings after season three created a big issue for the show,
with fans assuming the 2010 Christmas special would be the last episode.
The show managed to pull itself through the tragedy and its popularity surged, with season four becoming a fan favourite. Sadly, ratings continued to drop as the show continued, leading to its cancellation after season ten. Still, not a bad effort for a show about average people staying at an average holiday resort.
Back in 2016, Fox decided it was time to cash in on the TV sensation. They brought in Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler (BH91201) to adapt the original script and it went about as well as you would expect.
The show would centre around a family from Boston who pay a visit to a Mexican resort which offers the titular "Big Package" deal. Four years later and there hasn't been a single peep about the adaptation. Probably for the best.
