Break Firefly down to its core parts: it's a sci-fi Western that delivers drama, action and comedy in equal measure. It's a delicate formula, but it's one that, if handled correctly, could recapture the magic that fans have been craving since the original show's cancellation.

Westworld walked a lot of similar ground, and HBO made a respectable job of adapting the source material of the 1973 movie of the same name, so how they might handle a Firefly reboot isn't too hard to imagine.

A slightly grittier tone and a little more emphasis on the darker parts of the 'Verse would be right in HBO's wheelhouse, and it could be just different enough to the original show that it could attract a whole new fan base.
