10 Worst How I Met Your Mother Episodes
1. The Broken Code
Several times in this article it's been said that Ted is the main protagonist and nobody could really dispute that. There may be five main characters, but Ted is the narrator and the one everyone sees at his lowest. A good protagonist should be nuanced, they should have depth and not always do the right thing, but they should at least be a character the audience can always root for to some degree.
This was one of the rare
episodes where nobody was rooting for Ted, tarnishing the whole thing from the
get-go.
The Bro-Code is something mentioned throughout the show, the rules which unite men in camaraderie and outline what friends should and shouldn’t do, particularly with regards to women.
Ted has broken that code by still having feelings for Robin, and for comforting her and holding her hand at the carousel. This episode centres around Ted’s betrayal of Barney, a plot point which is both far too heavy for the show so close to its end and also makes Ted completely unsympathetic.
