10 Worst Star Trek Moments In 2024

1. How Many Planes Does It Take (Admiral)?

"Don’t be eejits, here!" Kate Mulgrew noted to CinemaBlend's Mick Joest at San Diego Comic-Con in July. That was her broad, but decidedly accurate, summary of the banner flown over the Netflix offices in Los Angeles in August 2023. No fools the first time, the streaming giant picked up Star Trek: Prodigy for season two.

Yet, in spite of everyone's best efforts — a second plane in particular — and one of the best outings of contemporary Star Trek, we're still suffering the lack of season three news un-gladly. Nothing from Netflix this time. More fool them! Does the Admiral need to send in a whole fleet of light aircraft followed by a squadron of shuttles?

"It is unquestionably superior," Mulgrew went on to add to Joest. You'd have a hard time convincing us otherwise. Critical and fan praise for Prodigy's second season was overwhelming. At time of writing, season two has 100% on the famous tomatometer, and 96% on the popcornmeter. Even its IMDB score never drops below 7.6, which is more than can be said for the second seasons of some other Star Trek shows.

Art is seemingly little more than an excuse for viewing figures. It has been like that for some time, but when everything is measured, the immeasurable is lost. How many planes will it really take? Infinite and none. All we can do now is hope — pie instead in the sky — that hope is not a foolish thing. We'll all need a lot of it in 2025, anyway!
