10 Worst TV Shows Of 2018 (So Far)
5. Splitting Up Together
Pam, you deserve so much better than this.
It was painfully obvious from the trailer alone that ABC's new sitcom, which stars Jenna Fischer and Oliver Hudson as a couple who decide to divorce while still maintaining an awkward living arrangement together for the sake of their kids, was no good.
As far as low-effort sitcoms go, the premise is vaguely original, and though Fischer is as appealing as ever, Hudson doesn't bring much of interest to the table, and they're both at the mercy of writing that pulls relentlessly from the syrupy rom-com playbook.
There's definitely a decent show in here somewhere, but neither clever nor hilarious enough to reconcile its oft-shifting tone, it comes maddeningly close to feeling like a satire of what mawkish network sitcoms usually are.
Despite fast-tumbling ratings, the show somehow secured a second season.
