11 Bizarre '90s Cartoons That Only Ran One Season
3. Hammerman
Every nineties fad had their own vehicle to prove themselves, no matter how worthless they turned out to be. The Spice Girls had Spice World. Britney Spears had Crossroads. And Vanilla Ice? We were so charitable back them we gave him two chances, first with Cool as Ice, then TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze.
But the Hammerman, MC, got no respect. First striking it rich with U Can't Touch This, but by 2 Legit 2 Quit, listeners were starting to doubt his authenticity. It wasn't a long road to bankruptcy.
In his heyday, however, his entire persona was something new. Hammer was an exceptionally good dancer, and Pop-rap had not been a mainstream success yet. Had Hammer not turned to Christ, his career would have played our very different. Right before being ordained, he had signed a deal with Suge Knight. He has rightfully been recognized for his achievements since, but there's no question his popular work was far from his most accomplished, nor what he is most proud of.
Hammerman may have had its heart in the right place, featuring MC as youth center worker Stanley Burrell (his real name) who possessed magic, superhero-transforming dancing shows.
How was it? Bad enough for Entertainment Weekly to get catty: "When it comes to idiotic adaptations, u can't touch this." Sick burn?
