Dana Andrews is a modern day man tired of living under the threat of nuclear war, and decides to use his time machine to change the past to change the present. After several really incompetent attempts (including one in which he gets Hitler in his sights and doesn't fire because it's just a test run), he concludes that history just can't be changed (not by him, anyway), and decides to live in the supposedly good old days permanently.

The “good old days” turn out to be the Indiana of 1881 (who knew?). Unfortunately, he doesn’t fit into the good old days quite as well as he’d hoped. Despite Dana’s disdain for the modern age, his own attitudes and sensibilities are still much more modern than the average 19th century Hoosier. In the end, Dana makes one more half-baked effort to change history, and ends up causing what he was trying to prevent. At this point he wisely decides to cut his losses and go back to live in the present rather than humiliate himself further.

HOW COLORIZATION COULD HELP: With these time travel stories, it helps to create as much of a contrast between past and present as possible. So, colorize the brief scenes in the present and leave the past in black and white.
