5. Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
It isnt just dramas that can have a major antagonist, as a villain can still work while being played for laughs, as evidenced perfectly in Netflixs Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Jon Hamms comedy work is a bit underrated, probably because hes so linked to the character of Don Draper, and hes on top form as the over-the-top, religious-cult leader Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne. He was responsible for keeping Kimmy and the other mole women locked in a dungeon for 15 years, something he is completely unrepentant for, and yet manages to make himself appear to be the good guy in the eyes of the court, using his looks and charm to win over everyone but Kimmy. He is the perfect sitcom villain, making you laugh and hate him in equal measure, and he is more than deserving of his place against the big dramatic hitters.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
