11 TV Characters Killed Off Far Too Soon

10. Nicholas Brody - Homeland

Showtime

Homeland is a show which has never fully fallen into the realm of "bad TV", but its impact lessened in later years. Looking back, it can't be denied that the death of Nicholas Brody (Damien Lewis) was a major turning point which came along far too early in the show's run.

The show's first few seasons are its strongest thanks to the constantly intense and ambiguous nature of Brody's storyline. The whole "Is he a bad guy or not?" theme is one of TV drama's most effective and well crafted plot devices, and though the show moved on from that into some daring and innovative territory, it is Brody who fans miss more than anything.

Despite being the primary force of the show and the main plot driver, Brody doesn't make it passed Season Three. Held in Iran for treason offences, Brody is found guilty and subject to a public hanging. Carrie promises to save him, but it's too late; he's accepted his fate.

His death, like many others on this list, is well-handled, brilliantly directed and convincingly acted. Unfortunately, the subsequent seasons weren't quite as able to ramp up the tension perfected by Brody's complex and twisting arc, and it would have been great to see him stick around for just a little bit longer, especially given the fact Homeland managed to run until its eighth season.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
