A tribute to Golden Age comics under the DC banner, Legends offers up a two-part episode in which some members of the League are transported to an alternate universe in which the somewhat silly yet earnest "Justice Guild of America" protects a seemingly idyllic 1950s-based town (despite the date matching their own) from equally silly villains, all based on versions of the Justice League characters that existed in the same era.

Even while poking fun at the flaws of such a world, including some not-so-subtle jibes at the era's sexism, as well as some subtler instances of racism experienced by Green Lantern, all wrapped in the well-meaning pleasantness of the setting, the pair of episodes is able to invoke some real tension and unease when Hawkgirl finds gravestones bearing the names of each Guild member, revealing that their idyllic city isn't at all what it seems.

With a heartbreaking ending that effectively encompasses the unerring nobility that made Golden Age heroes truly great despite their silliness and flaws, Legends is a touching tribute to the artists and writers who created the comics that shaped many heroic ideals even to this day, and their influence on the world at large.
