Shore leave is always a fun time for the crew of Voyager. Meeting new species, exploring new worlds and cultures... Well, for one member of the crew, the shore leave in the episode Tsunkatse wasn't quite as pleasant as expected.

On an alien planet, a game called Tsunkatse piques the interest of many crewmembers. This mixed martial arts sport pits two fighters together and depending on what type of fight it is, it does not finish until one fighter is dead. As more crewmembers become invested in the game, bets are formed, but there are two crewmembers not interested in the game at all.

On their way to explore a micro-nebula, Seven and Tuvok are captured by an alien vessel and are taken to a location where Seven is blackmailed to fight to ensure Tuvok gets medical treatment after he was injured in the attack. The darkness comes when Seven is forced to fight and potentially kill another fighter whom had helped train her.

Throughout the fight Seven's struggle with her emotions is evident. Does she win the fight and kill her opponent, or does she lose and get killed herself? Luckily for Seven, she is rescued before the fight ends. However, she is left fearing she lost the humanity she had worked so hard to find again. It's a dark moment for Seven, as she realises how easy it is to lose her humanity.

A recently created Star Trek fan with a special affinity for the adventures of Voyager and its crew. I enjoy the occasional horror movie and love anything 80s to the point where I've been told I was an 80s child reborn. I'm a true blue Aussie and proud of it.
