One of the major positives from Masters of Sex is that it has marked the full-time return to TV for the great Allison Janney, of course best known for her role as White House press secretary C.J. Cregg on The West Wing.

As Margaret Scully, wife of Provost Barton, she is fantastic as the woman married to a man she loves, and who does love her back, only not in the way she wishes as he struggles to deal with his sexuality.

One interesting note to her role is that she actually had a clause in her contract that stated she would not be required to do nudity (which, considering it’s such a huge part of the series, shows just how much respect she commands). However, after a few episodes playing the character, she ended up feeling comfortable enough to appear nude, which ended up serving a big dramatic purpose as well.
