While she's usually been allied with a king or wannabe king, Melisandre was mostly isolated in her final appearances, knowing that Jon and Ser Davos would not tolerate her presence after the murder of Shireen Baratheon. And though she said she's going away to Volantis, she's too invested in the fate of the Iron Throne to disappear entirely.

She'd be drawn back even knowing that she'll die. It's just a matter of when.

Could She Return?

Well, her last prophecy said she would (and that she and Varys had to die in Westeros), but then again she's got about 87% of her prophecies wrong. So your guess is as good as hers...
