Much like Lost, a lot of The X-files once-intense tension is deflated for viewers experiencing the show on a re-watch as the series' failure to provide any meaningful conclusion to its long running enigmatic central mystery leaves the constant cryptic clues feeling more pointless than significant and unmissable.

Unlike Lost, however, Mulder and Scully had incredible chemistry to fall back on, not to mention the stellar secret weapon that is their frequent monster of the week episodes, standalone instalments like Home and Squeeze which left viewers wondering what horrors were waiting out there in the dark outside your window, or creeping up right behind you for that matter...
