12 New TV Characters We Can't Wait To Meet In 2017

2. Emmit And Ray Stussy - Fargo

Fargo Season 3 Ewan McGregor Mary Elizabeth Winstead

It seems that casting the same actor in two different roles is the in thing for TV showrunning geniuses in 2017. Not only is David Simon doing it with The Deuce, but Noah Hawley is doing it with Fargo's third season.

The show - which has established itself as one of the very best of at least the decade - is taking us to 2010 for the latest instalment, with a stacked cast including Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Carrie Coon, and David Thewlis.

Leading the way is Ewan McGregor, playing a pair of brothers - but, unlike Franco, not twins. One is Emmit Stussy, a successful businessman, a product of the American Dream, and self-made Parking Lot King of Minnesota. The other is Ray, his pot-bellied, greasy-haired, down-on-his-luck brother, for whom McGregor has completely transformed himself.

McGregor is an excellent actor, even if he hasn't always taken the right roles, and it'll be fun to see him with what should be great material here. The two brothers are said to have a long-standing rivalry, while Hawley is a master at crafting these weird, multi-dimensional figures. Just seeing his creations is enticing enough, but put McGregor in both roles, have him play against himself with two very contrasting types, and it becomes really exciting.
