Ben Wyatt loves a lot of dorky s**t, and isn't afraid to admit it. From being overcome with emotions after seeing the "bridge from Inception" to buying himself a Batman costume during Treat Yo Self day, there have been plenty examples of him fawning over his interests, but one obsession which seemingly comes out of nowhere is his love for the band Letters to Cleo.

The band at one point ends up playing at Pawnee's Unity Concert, and Ben looks happier than he's ever been, singing from the side of the stage and shouting to the singer that he loves them. Even to longtime viewers though, it might feel like they're missing something, as the gag comes across like the payoff to a larger joke that's never actually been set up.

It turns out, however, that while he never explicitly states before then that he's a fan of the band, the punchline is foreshadowed episodes prior when Ben is out of work. In his depressed stupor (during which he became dedicated to his claymation movie), he can be seen wearing the same t-shirt over and over again. A t-shirt with Letters to Cleo emblazoned on the front.
