12 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching The Walking Dead
6. Space Junk
This is the kind of subtle detail that gets fans hyped about the show. In the very first episode of the series, the song "Space Junk" by the band Wang Chung plays as the camera shows us the tank Rick is trapped in. It's a sweet and melodic track to play over Walkers eating a horse, but it fits brilliantly and gives the dire situation a spark of hopefulness and optimism.
The reason it's included on this list, though? In Rick's final episode, shown in Episode Five of Season Nine, he is gravely injured and taken by Anne on a helicopter. The vehicle takes off and Rick leaves the show with it. But as he leaves, "Space Junk" is played and the credits begin to roll.
It's easy to miss, since it's so long between his first and last appearance, but it remains a great way to bookend his journey on the show and close his chapter the same way it was opened.
And, of course, it's another example of how much the crew care about the little things.
