12 Things Agents Of SHIELD Needs To Fix For Season 2
5. Less Sidelining Of Coulson
This one's pretty self-explanatory: give Clark Gregg more to do. Like a lot more. Without a doubt the MVP of Marvel's flagship show (and, arguably, the glue that ties the whole cinematic universe together), Coulson is by no means wasted on the show, but he does sometimes get relegated to the backseat when he's often the emotional core of the team and thus best suited for each episode's biggest moments. The rest of the cast are obviously invaluable too, with each recurring character proving themselves a worthy addition to the team over the course of the season (and Grant Ward completely turning his arc around from least to most interesting character by season's end), but it's when they're fully integrated as a (dysfunctional) family with Coulson at the head that AoS really purrs. Take the last few episodes as a perfect example: when Phil Coulson cares deeply about something, even to the extent where he's making potentially bad decisions and the rest of the team have to fall in line or fight him on them we get some of the best drama the show's produced. There's not really any chance of Clark Gregg going anywhere anytime soon (unless Joss decides to off him again), but the producers really ought to know to use a great thing when they have it on the payroll.
