12 Things Agents Of SHIELD Needs To Fix For Season 2

6. Develop A More Concrete Identity

As has been mentioned in other points in this article, Agents Of SHIELD has had something of an identity crisis in its (so far) short run, flip-flopping from investigative procedural to action-drama to superhero corporate espionage and back again over the course of several episodes. On their own, those elements aren't inherently negative, but when they're thrown together without any real cohesion in a television show that's still figuring out what it's good at the results can be kind of messy. In the last stretch of episodes, AoS did a standout job of having clear, consistent stories and themes that delivered on the promise of earlier episodes, and that's the show we should be watching every week when it returns. Whether it decides to incorporate more spy or fantastical elements, the writers and producers need to know what show Agents is trying to be before the audience is left to decide for themselves if that's the kind of show they want to watch.
