12 Things Agents Of SHIELD Needs To Fix For Season 2
4. More Reimaginings Of Ace Comic Characters
One of the best, most unexpected ideas that the show through out during its first season was the destruction of new superhero/Project Centipede casualty Mike Peterson and his resurrection as the cult comic killing machine Deathlok. His story became twisted in the best way - he doesn't want to do any harm, but he's forced to use the arsenal grafted to his body in order to keep himself and his son from coming to any harm - and brought some much-needed pathos and angst to a character that could easily have been a faceless killing machine. More of that, please. Marvel has many, many C- and D-list characters that have either been sidelined, misused or underused in the past that could easily be made over in their new TV universe. If not the big guns, why not bring in interesting supporting characters from the comics? Doc Samson, the superhero therapist is certainly one who could bring an entertaining dynamic to scenes between (former) SHIELD agents and their superpowered collars, to name but one. A fear might be that messing with original characters too much might ruffle some fan feathers. Marvel succeeded in radically altering the mythology of Thor from the comics for his movies, and if they can get away with that with A-list superheroes then they certainly shouldn't be afraid to mix things up and introduce some completely reimagined characters to the small screen that might not have worked so well if they were completely faithful to their original renderings. We're looking at you, Squirrel Girl.
