13 Best TV Moments Of 2016 (So Far)

3. The Staircase Fight - Daredevil

In terms of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and superhero television, Season 1 of Daredevil was a cold hard punch of fresh air. Taking a character mostly known by the general audience for Ben Affleck's 2003 flop, Netflix and Marvel turned The Man Without Fear into one of the best TV series of 2015, an exciting, dark, gripping show with some of the best action scenes anywhere on TV, and arguably Marvel's greatest on-screen villain yet in Wilson Fisk.

Could they repeat the trick in Season 2? Yes and no. The second run was bigger in scope, more ambitious, and took more risks, but not all of them paid off. The Hand, despite being ninjas, were somewhat underwhelming, while there were some ill-formed and poorly-explained mysteries concerning them and Elektra. On the other hand, we got deeper into the characters, with all the major ones playing their part, Fisk made a memorable return, Elektra was an entertaining presence, and Jon Bernthal was simply incredible as the Punisher.

Best of all, though, they ramped it up in the action stakes. The first season gave us a brutal but brilliant long take corridor fight scene, and Season 2 topped it...twice. While Frank Castle's prison scrap was great, it's Matt Murdock's battle on the staircase that truly stands out. With a gun taped to one hand and a chain in the other, he lays waste to a number of enemies from a motorcycle gang.

It's heart-pounding stuff, lasting about five minutes in length as we follow Murdock down the corridor and then the stairwell, as he dishes out beatings and takes a fair few himself. It's fast-paced, frenetic violence, artistic in its extremeness, and you'll probably need to take a break to calm down after watching it.
