5. The Motel Room - Preacher

Daredevil Kimmy Ramsay
AMC

Preacher has fast turned into one of the best shows on TV. Nearing the end of its first season, it's crazy, it's violent, and it makes for some seriously entertaining viewing.

Although Dominic Cooper anchors the series as the titular Preacher, he's outshone by his fellow leading castmates, Ruth Negga's Tulip and Joseph Gilgun's Cassidy. Both of them had superb introductions, involved in different yet equally great fight scenes that showcases at least part of what these characters are about, from Cass' use of blood taps to Tulip's )off-screen) use of a bazooka.

That was all topped in episode 6, though, with the motel room. After visiting angels DeBlanc and Fiore explain to Jesse what the thing inside of him is, they're followed back to their motel room by another unnamed angel, who wants to bring in the fugitive angels, and keeps coming with the unwavering determination of a T-1000.

What makes the fight scene is the fact that the angels cannot die; if you kill them, then they come back in a refreshed body, apparently unharmed. And the opening sequence to Sundowner has A LOT of fun with that. We see all of the characters (except for Preacher) dying in all manner of comic ways, while a lot of it is shown from an outside perspective, meaning we get to see the bright lights that indicate their return, and characters falling over, without the specifics.

It constantly flows, even as the opening credits begin, and only gets better when Cassidy enters the fray and believes he's helping. It's a perfect encapsulation of Preacher, in that it's some great action, artfully directed, violent, and also totally bonkers, and just a fantastic scene to watch.
