13. Rick And Shane's Relationship As Cops

Considering that they came to be mortal enemies in the end, you'd think Rick and Shane would have had a tumultuous life as partners on the police force prior to the world becoming overrun with zombies. However, that didn't necessarily seem to be the case from what viewers saw back in the first season of The Walking Dead. Mind you, what was glimpsed on the show of Rick and Shane's past partnership wasn't much. They were supposedly best friends from childhood, though from what transpired later, you wouldn't know it. Shane the TV character lasted a fair bit longer than his literary counterpart, so it wasn't as if there wasn't enough screen time to fit in a bit of back story between these two. Really, it's a wasted opportunity - though were they to dig back into Rick's past now, it could be a worthwhile exercise. Besides, Rick seems to be seeing ghosts more often than not, so it's an easy way to have Shane "return" and send Rick on a bit of a soul-searching mission. It's simple curiosity, to see how these two interacted before the events of the first two seasons of the show - but it could also lead to some dramatic gold for the series.
