13 Reasons Why 13 Reasons Why's Final Season Is A Complete Trainwreck

3. Everything About The Bryce And Monty Storyline

13 Reasons Why Season 4
Netflix

When this season actually bothers to bring up Bryce and Monty, everything about it is poorly done. Everything.

This storyline could've been the big mystery of the season, but it doesn't appear nearly enough and it's never suspenseful at all. For example, there's an interesting set-up with the jocks repeatedly calling Clay with Monty's number, but this disappears after only three episodes. Meanwhile, Winston and Diego (the characters who might be about to expose the truth about Bryce's death) never pose enough of a threat.

They then abruptly give up on getting justice at the end of the season. Apparently this is because Winston and Diego love Alex and Jessica respectively too much to get them into trouble... even though neither of these romances had the slightest bit of chemistry or felt remotely believable.

Then, there's the resolution. In fairness, the unsatisfying resolution to the otherwise solid season three did paint the show into a corner somewhat, but the fact that these students basically get away with murder is pretty bloody uncomfortable, especially since a police officer was in on it too.
