13 Reasons Why Season 2 Review: 5 Ups And 7 Downs

5. The Hannah And Zach Storyline

Speaking of narrative inconsistencies, it's not only the relationship between Olivia and Andy that's problematic, we also discover that Hannah and Zach had a sexual relationship during the summer of the previous year.

The flashback scenes featuring the two characters were actually some of the best of the season, and Katherine Langford and Ross Butler have great on-screen chemistry. Honestly, their brief time together could dethrone Hannah and Clay as the show's best relationship.

But no matter how charming the pairing was, this storyline just doesn't sit well with what we were told last season. Zach upset Hannah by discarding her note, which was the only reason she included him on the tapes. Yet, we learn in Season 2 that the pair reconciled after this, and began a relationship. Why would she have included Zach on the tapes for something that they had already sorted out before she died?

Sorry, but the extra information we're learning about Hannah this season just isn't working. The writers seem hellbent on continuing 13 Reasons Why beyond the first season, but all it's doing is damaging the great storylines that have come before.
