The newest addition to the show, Ani wasted no time making her presence felt this year by featuring heavily in, well, everything. The season was explored from her perspective as, in the midst of an interview with Deputy Standall, she recalled the events that led up to that very moment.

As a character, Ani functions well. She’s an efficient judge of character which, most of the time, makes her an effective ally – and that all pays off when she plays a major role in the investigation into Bryce’s death. That said, there are quite a few drawbacks to the character.

First of all, she’s essentially nothing more than a plot device introduced in order to let the viewers judge the events leading up to Bryce’s death from an unbiased perspective. But that’s a device that ultimately fails because we already know these characters really well - so why should we trust the perspective of this impossibly knowledgeable newcomer who is suddenly at the centre of everything while also refusing to reveal all of the necessary information about herself?

That right there is also one of the major issues – this season is literally all about her and, as a result, can’t go for more than 10 minutes without at least referring to her. And given that it’s already got a strong line-up full of compelling characters, that feels like a step backwards.
