14th Doctor Who: 10 Actors Who Could Play Russell T. Davies’ Doctor

Here we are, the bookies favourite. Olly Alexander has been rumoured to play The Doctor for some time now, with some viewers believing that rumour is seemingly confirmed by the return of his recent collaborator, Russell T. Davies, to the show. We have to admit, it’s interesting that the rumours of Alexander’s involvement came about long before the RTD2 announcement, especially given that, just this year, RTD suggested Alexander for the role.

Alexander has declined that he is playing The Doctor, putting out a pun-laced statement, but until we know otherwise, we can’t be sure this isn’t total rubbish.

Aside from being the frontman of the band Years and Years (not to be confused with the RTD show), Alexander has had a handful of acting roles, which he has reviewed acclaim for, such as God Help The Girl, Bright Star and Funny Bunny. However, he has most recently exploded onto screens in AIDS-focused drama It’s A Sin, penned by none other than Russell ‘The’ Davies.

It’s starting to add up, but there’s just one problem. We aren’t sure he’s right for The Doctor. As talented as he is, we’re a little doubtful he could pull off every side of the character convincingly (but we’re happy to be proved wrong).

No doubt you were expecting Alexander to take the number one slot here, but we have another theory…
