14th Doctor Who: 10 Actors Who Could Play Russell T. Davies’ Doctor

1. Lydia West

Olly Alexander Doctor Who
BBC

Our top prediction for the Fourteeth Doctor is… Lydia West.

West is a relatively new face in British TV, but has already proven her talent in just a handful of appearances. She has recently appeared in Dracula, and will next year star in The Inside Man, both penned by Steven Moffat, but she is more famous for her roles in Years and Years and It’s A Sin. The writer for those two shows? If you've been paying attention to this article, you'll know the man responsible is a certain Mr. Russell T. Davies - that’s quite the connection to the show already, and to the incoming showrunner.

West, unlike Alexander, could certainly manage a more Doctor-like vibe, playing similar characters in her previous shows. She can play whimsical, but nails the hard-hitting moments too, and she feels as if she’s on the cusp of a big break in her career - could this be it?

The BBC will likely be looking to cast another female Doctor so as to not validate those who think Thirteen didn’t work just because she was a woman (there were many reasons the Chibs era failed, but that was not one of them), and, let’s be honest, it’s about time we had a non-white mainline Doctor. Plus we know that younger Doctors tend to be more popular.

She’s not been discussed much amongst the fanbase, but watch this space...

If she’s announced, you owe us a fiver.
