10. Angela Bassett
During her stay on the show, Oscar nominee Angela Bassett has played some of American Horror Story's toughest characters.
Her first major role came in Coven, where she played voodoo priestess Marie Laveau. The arch nemesis of Supreme witch Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) and evil socialite Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates), Marie was incredibly powerful and played a leading role in that season's key events.
Bassett briefly reprised her role as Marie in Apocalypse, and turned up in Freak Show as the spirited and tragic Desiree Dupree.
Aside from a small, underused role in Roanoke, Bassett was missing from 1984 and won't be returning to season ten, but given how amazing she's been thus far, it wouldn't be a stretch to say she'll be back soon enough to give more top-draw, Emmy-nominated performances. The show's a better place with her around.
