Archer Season 9 ended with Archer’s death, and in doing so ended our stay on Danger Island. After Archer fell into a coma at the end of Season 7, the two follow up seasons have been high concept affairs. While Season 8’s Dreamland had a noirish throwback feel to it, Season 9 took us to the tropics during World War 2.

This scheme has as many fans as detractors, and is set to continue into Season 10 with a sci-fi theme. With creator Adam Reed doing the lion’s share of the writing, perhaps it’s a symptom of his creative boredom that leads to him creating new universes for his existing characters each time.

Regardless, in Danger Island, Reed gave us possibly the most likeable Archer yet. His usual brand of selfishness and quick-witted insults were still there, but in the mix was a closeness to Pam too. So much that he even proposed to her, although admittedly that was out of pity.

His best moment though came at the climax... are we still doing phrasing? After a brilliant action sequence with a robotic Cyril, Archer dives into lava to take him down and save the rest of them.
