15 Best Sci-Fi TV Shows Of The 21st Century

14. Black Mirror

The X-Files

Viewers who tuned into 2008’s sparse, bleak horror satire Dead Set would probably never have predicted that TV Go Home critic Charlie Brooker, the series showrunner, would go on to create an iconic satirical sci-fi series which has frequently garnered comparisons to Rod Serling’s seminal Twilight Zone anthology in the years since its debut.

Bouncing between edgy British network Channel 4 and streaming giant Netflix, the size of Black Mirror’s budget and the relative fame of its cast ranges wildly between instalments. But fortunately what never changes is the acerbic wit and insightful vision of the show’s dark satire, which has managed to take on everything from social media, to reality TV, to mob justice, to celebrity worship in its many effective standalone episodes.
