12. Dexter: The Final Series Had A Sharp Decline In Popularity

You might have heard that the final Dexter episode polarised fans. Is he a lumberjack now? Wasn't he a murderer? That's one hell of a curveball to suddenly drop, fans were unbelievably disappointed with the finale. If you believe the figures though, Dexter viewers were losing interest before then. Before Series 8, all but two episodes of the show were rated below 8; on from 'This Little Piggy' though, the show saw a steep drop in popularity, with IMDB ratings slipping and slipping. 'Goodbye Miami' was given an underwhelming 6.5 before penultimate story 'Monkey In A Box' clawed the rating back up to 7. 'Remember The Monsters?' may have been the last nail in the coffin - an infamously iconic, almost universally deplored nail that scored a terrible 4.9 - but it certainly was the first sign of the show crashing in quality. It's a surprise that Dexter headed quite so far downhill; four season finales had scored a 9 or above, and best-rated episode was Season 4 closer 'The Getaway', which was given an impressive 9.7. It's certainly not the first show to slip towards the end, but it's a staggering drop.
