15 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching Star Wars: The Clone Wars

9. Original Trilogy References

Clone Wars Season 1

Throughout The Clone Wars, there are many references to the original trilogy and foreshadowing of the events to come.

In the second episode of the show, Jedi Master Plo Koon gets trapped in an escape pod with some clones after their cruiser is destroyed by General Grievous and his new warship, the Malevolence. The ship's ion cannon, which causes cruisers in its path to lose all power, looks strikingly similar to the Death Star, as homage to the original films.

There's also an escape pod launched by Master Plo's ship that bares the callsign "1977," an obvious shout-out to the release year of A New Hope.

In a much more subtle and easier to miss reference to the original trilogy, clone troopers Sinker and Boost exchange dialogue directly taken from Han Solo's lines in The Empire Strikes Back, continuing the episode's theme of honouring the show's roots.
