15 Star Trek Deaths That Didn't Last

5. The Borg Queen - Star Trek: First Contact

A death that defies space, time and possibly logic.

At the end of Star Trek First Contact, the Borg Queen was defeated. Her organic parts melted away and Picard defiantly snapped the twitching spinal column of the remaining cybernetic elements to rid the galaxy of the menace once and for all. Roll credits.

Skip forward in time and a couple of quadrants to Voyager's trip home and the Borg Queen is back. No explanation or real reason is given except that you need to think about it beyond the confines of human intelligence. Basically, just deal with it.

Played by Susanna Thompson for the majority of her appearances on Voyager, the Borg Queen was a constant thorn in the side of Janeway and Seven of Nine. Thompson would, ironically, survive her encounters with Voyager and First Contact's Alice Krige would return for series finale Endgame. That saw the Queen quite literally in pieces as the heavily upgraded Voyager made mincemeat of the Borg Hub. Krige was two for two.

Providing a face and a focal point to the Collective, fans have been left wondering if she'll be dropping by any time soon as part of the Picard spin off.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
