Not being 'down with the kids' (hence the use of the phrase 'down with the kids'), I'm not particularly familiar with the work of Issa Rae. She's a YouTube star who rose to prominence with her series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, with her channel currently having over 200,000 subscribers and 20 million views.

She's also appeared on lists such as Forbes' 30 under 30, and Rolling Stone's 23 Funniest People in America.

So, yeah, she's on her way to becoming a big deal - if she's not there already - and brings a pre-existing fanbase to her HBO series. Insecure will follow the story of two black women, and all their "uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations." Rae has co-written it alongside talk show host Larry Wilmore, and will co-star alongside Yvonne Orji.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
