7. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
This has already started airing on BBC One in the UK, and will be heading stateside via BBC America from 13 June. Based on Susanna Clarkes hugely popular epic-fantasy novel of the same name, this story is set at a time when magic is believed to have left Britain, and two men are determined to bring it back: Jonathan Strange, portrayed by Bertie Carvel, and Mr Norrell, played here by Eddie Marsan. This sets in motion a dangerous battle between the two minds. It has been getting strong reviews so far in the UK, and the blend of magical-fantasy and historical-drama - its set in an alternate history England, around the time of the Napoleonic Wars - is one therell definitely be a gap for in the summer months.

A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
