What it's about: It's the dramas that rule the airwaves for the most part nowadays, which doesn't leave much room for the usual stalwarts of TV programming: the sitcom. A To Z and Black-ish look like they could go either way, with decent premises and casts that could nonetheless sink below the surface. It's happened to better shows in the past, and you know it's gonna happen again in the future. We really hope that's not the case with Marry Me, however, considering it's one of the first times in yonks we've gotten really pumped for a network comedy before it begins. Casey Wilson and Ken Marino who both starred in previous prematurely cancelled shows Happy Endings and Party Down, respectively play a couple on the cusp of matrimony...if only one of them can actually work up the nerve to propose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyIuHEfNmYM Why it looks good: It's a similar set-up to Happy Endings, with a couple of a certain age considering walking down the aisle after a drawn-out courtship. Which is interesting in itself, because that's usually the sort of storyline you don't get to 'til about season five, as per the model set down by Friends. We trust Marino and Wilson, however, as well as the show's creator David Caspe who, not so coincidentally, is the real-life husband of the female star, and also came up with Happy Endings. So in a way Marry Me is like the unofficial sequel to that previous show, which not only save us a lot of time writing fan fiction, but also means we get to see some of our favourite comedic types on screen again.
