20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About The Big Bang Theory

17. Bazinga!

The now iconic catchphrase of Sheldon Cooper, which made it first appearance all the way back in the Season 2 finale, actually has its origins in a grapefruit. Former Big Bang Theory writer Stephen Engel used to use €œBazinga€ as a way of saying, €œI got you€ during a recurring joke involving a half-eaten, taped-together grapefruit in the writer€™s room. The catchphrase caught on among the writers and was added to the script in a last-minute decision before they started taping the second season€™s finale. "I'd open it up and Stephen would say, 'Bazinga,' " executive producer Bill Prady recalled. "It was Stephen's word for 'gotcha.' Such is the love for the phrase; scientists working with bees have dubbed one of the species with the name Bazinga Bee as it literally surprised them when they discovered it, although we like to this it was just to honour Sheldon Cooper. Now that is a claim to fame.
